Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo
Mar 18, 2010 at 7:00 pm
Aaron Williams has earned the reputation as one of the finest young
bluesman out on the circuit today. This contemporary four piece is
primed for the lime-light. From fat New Orleans funk to west coast
swing, from Beale St. blues to a Texas shuffle; they flow
effortlessly throughout a show. With the drive and conviction
rarely seen these day?s, this band is showing fans one show at a
time that they believe in what their doing. This same exact
approach of ?one show at a time? attitude is a sight to see; you?ll
never catch the same show twice and be amazed at least once.

Film Noir Screening: Double Indemnity
THURSDAY, MARCH 11, 6:15 PM
Double Indemnity, dir. Billy Wilder, 1944
Experience one of the starkest noir films, both visually and
ethically. This adaptation by Raymond Chandler and Billy Wilder of
the James Cain novella (1935) features crisp storytelling,
excellent performances, and first-rate hard-boiled dialogue. The
contrast between light and dark throughout is perhaps one of the
most consistent statements of noir aesthetics. The story similarly
reflects this strict division and projects it onto the moral plane
with "right" embodied in the rigorously logical, morally and
statistically driven insurance investigator and "wrong" in the
sexually and criminally wayward couple.
The Noir Palette: The Visual Codes of Despair
UW-Milwaukee associate professor Vicki Callahan will facilitate a
discussion after the film, during which she will look at the close
and consistent link in film noir between visual codes and the moral
dynamics of the story world.
Being held in conjunction with the Street Seen exhibition.
