"Food Matters" and "Food Inc" - Both a must see! - Two FREE Movie Nights at Public Market

Food Matters" - Friday, January 15, 6:00pm—8:00 pm, Milwaukee Public Market (2nd Floor)

With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what's wrong with our malnourished bodies, it's no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. Food Matters sets about uncovering the trillion dollar worldwide 'sickness industry' and gives people some scientifically verifiable solutions for overcoming illness naturally. In what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several leading experts in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer.

Join Tally, certified natural health practitioner for this enlightening movie that discusses how eating the right kind of food, supplements and detoxification can be used effectively to treat chronic illness and return one to a state of health and wellness.

Food Inc" - Friday, January 29, 6:00pm—8:00 pm, Milwaukee Public Market (2nd Floor)

How much do we really know about the food we buy at our local supermarkets and serve to our families? In Food Inc, filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing and criticizing large scale food production, at the hands of monopolizing large corporations, is not only unhealthy to eat and environmentally harmful, but is compromising the livelihood of the American farmer and the safety of the workers. The film reveals surprising, yet often shocking truths about what we eat, how it’s produced and who we have become as a nation.

Kenner exposes the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.
